MISTRA
It is difficult to find funds for true and effective interdisciplinary cooperation for sustainability. Un-sustainability is largely attributed to society’s “silo” mentality, and the funding community in general is not much different. We are therefore very happy to inform you about an excellent initiative from the Swedish research funder MISTRA, focusing on strategic sustainability research in Sweden. MISTRA has recently given Blekinge Institute of Technology (Professors Göran Broman and Karl-Henrik Robèrt) the task to prepare a platform for a new call addressing the operational aspects of sustainability.
BTH VISIT FROM USA AND UK
On August 30 and 31 of 2012, three international visitors arrived in Karlskrona, Sweden, to meet with Dr. Karl-Henrik Robèrt and Dr. Göran Broman in the offices of the Sustainability Group of the Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH). Co-founder of the Research Alliance, Green Chemistry Professor Terry Collins from Carnegie Mellon Institute in Pittsburgh, had taken the initiative to invite Professor Susan Jobling, Head of the Institute for the Environment (IfE) at Brunel University in Uxbridge England, and Ms. Teresa Waller, Director of Research Support and Development at the same institute.

FUTURA FUNDING
As many of you are aware, an elaboration of the social sustainability aspects of the Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development (FSSD) is of central interest for all participants of the research alliance. We are very happy to announce that the foundation FUTURA in Sweden has decided to support our research. Together with continued funding from BTH, this will allow us to carry on and scale up the project.
